The following article speaks to a recent spike in pin pad / POS terminal theft over the past year. Although these type of thefts have been happening for many years (I have personally been in the business of physically protecting pin pads since 2006), this recent spike is concerning.
I encourage you to read the following piece put out by CTV News and take the advise seriously. Make sure you have passwords and limits set up with your POS terminal and add a layer of physical security to ensure that anyone attempting to steal or modify your pin pad / POS terminal needs more than 9 seconds. If you can increase the risk for the fraudster by adding layers of security, they will not target your location.
